Self arranged placement

Self-arranged placement

This is exactly how it sounds - a week long placement for CAS Week that you can arrange yourself, giving you the scope to either spend concentrated time working with an organisation on a cause you are committed to, or in a work environment related to a career you’re interested in pursuing.

Self-arranged placement

This is a week-long placement for CAS Week that you will arrange yourself, giving you the scope to either spend concentrated time working with an organisation on a cause you are committed to or in a work environment related to a career you’re interested in pursuing.

Arranging a volunteering placement with an NGO/NPO:

Here's your chance to do something you really care about.  You will need to research, plan and organise your week of service.  You will have to get your plan approved by your parents and Mr Walker.

When you’re reaching out to an organisation to ask about working with them, make sure you consider the following:

  •     -    If it’s not an organisation you already have a good relationship with, make sure you research what they do and the different
  •           programs they have in place, check their social media for any upcoming events that you could attend prior to CAS week or help
  •           with preparing for during CAS week
    -    Explain why you would like to work with them

    -    Identify skills that you can offer, e.g. photography, graphic design

    -    Suggest ideas you might have for project work

If they can only accommodate you for half the day or part of the week, you can look for additional independent service opportunities through Social Career, Hands On HK and Time Auction

During the week you are expected to be fully occupied with your service activity.

Arranging a work experience placement:

Want to get experience of the workplace to see if a career path you’re interested in pursuing is the right one for you, or build up your experience in order to develop your skills and future employability? Then this might be the right choice for you!

If you don’t already have a connection with the workplace/business you hope to intern in, then similarly to the advice above you should show you’ve done your research when you get in touch.

Also consider:

You will need to plan your week of work placement in liaison with your point of contact at the organisation and get your plan approved by Mr Walker.

Additional considerations:

Be aware that some organisations may require you to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 14 days of the placement.

We will need to check on the details of your placement with your point of contact (supervisor) and as well as safety protocols in the workplace.

We will be checking in with you during the week so plan to make a report and if possible accept a visitor.
