What is CAS?

CAS stands for:

C = Creativity (the arts, expressive activities, original and interpretive thought, learning and applying new skills, performing)

A = Activity (physical activity, breaking a sweat (not just because it’s hot!), exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle)

S = Service (fulfilling an authentic need within the local or global community, taking action for a cause, providing a service to others that they cannot access or afford for themselves)

CAS is an integral part of life at RCHK.  Keeping active, finding ways to perform and think creatively, and being empowered to take action to make a positive difference are key elements of personal growth and community engagement that all students are encouraged to embrace.

CAS should...

・be challenging

・be meaningful

・involve personal goal-setting and reflecting

・be enjoyable

・not be repetitive, passive or simple

Why do we have CAS Week?

CAS Week has been a significant part of our year 12 experience for many years.  We recognize the pressure that IBDP and IBCP students are under to complete all that is required of them in the rigorous International Baccalaureate Programme. CAS Week allows students a concentrated period of time off-timetable to explore creative, active and/or service experiences, try something new or further their interests, rise to challenges, apply their knowledge in the real world and build relationships with their peers and teachers outside of the classroom.  We collapse the curriculum for the entire Year 12 cohort for one week, to encourage students to broaden their experience of the world.
