CAS Week General Information:

Creativity, Activity and Service are an integral part of the IB Diploma Programme and of life at RCHK. It is expected that students will be involved in CAS experiences on a weekly basis, for the duration of Years 12 and 13.

From the 11th to 15th November 2019*, all Year 12 students will be involved in CAS week.

CAS Week allows students a concentrated period of time to spend exploring creative, active or service experiences, trying something new or furthering interests, applying your knowledge in the real-world and developing personally and socially. It provides an excellent opportunity to come back after a week away and advocate on behalf of the communities you visited or share skills through running clubs or events. All those who participate in service activities, whether overseas or in Hong Kong, will be expected to organize and/or participate in some sort of fundraising or awareness raising for their cause, not only during the annual RCHK College Fair event but beyond.

Students will choose from a number of experiences for the entire week at various locations throughout Hong Kong and internationally. Students will choose one activity from Monday to Friday*. We encourage everyone to base your choice on what you feel you would enjoy and learn from the most, not based on what your friends are doing.

Please note that every effort is made to offer a variety of meaningful CAS experiences each year, and issues relating to safety and costs are taken into consideration. Accurate costs for HK-based activities and the overseas opportunities can only be finalized once we have a firm commitment from students in the form of a non-refundable deposit (HK$2,000 for overseas opportunities).

* These dates vary for overseas opportunities. Depending on flights available and travel times, trips could depart as early as Thursday, 7th November and return as late as Sunday, 17th November 2019.

This promises to be an enriching experience for students and we look forward to seeing you challenge yourselves in a variety of settings.

what is cas?

C = Creativity (the arts, expressive activities, original and interpretive thought, learning new skills, performing)

A = Activity (physical activity, breaking a sweat (not just because it’s hot!))

S = Service (doing something for others that they cannot do for themselves, cannot access or cannot afford, fulfilling a genuine need)

WHEN?

HK-based activities: Monday 11th November - Friday 15th November 2019

Overseas opportunities: Friday 8th November - Sunday 17th November 2019 (depending on trip)

why have a cas week?

At RCHK, we recognize the pressure that Diploma students are under to complete all that is required of them in the rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. We collapse the curriculum for the entire Year 12 cohort for one week, to allow them the opportunity to try something new, challenging and fun in a concentrated time period.
