We woke up at 5:30 am and had breakfast at 6:00. Shortly after, we got into the bus for an hour and reached the registration point. After obtaining our lanyards, we continued up the mountain in our trusted van to the starting point of the hike. We met our three guides Morris, Nile, and Johnny who told us more about the challenging hike ahead of us.
Immediately after, we started our hike as a team of 15 at 9:53 am. After hiking for around 20 minutes, we reached the first check point with positive attitudes. The checkpoints were at intervals of around 1km. After we reached the second checkpoint at 1.5km we split into fast and slow groups.
We continued hiking up Mt. Kinabalu at a slow and steady pace towards Laban Rata, which is at the elevation of 2,272m, our accommodation for the night. We reached Laban Rata at 2:50 pm and proceeded to eat dinner at 4:30pm. The slower group arrived at 4:30pm.
We had plenty of time to socialize and play board games! We then packed our bags for the next day and went to bed at 8:00pm.
Overall, today's day was relatively hard but we all persevered and made it to Laban Rata! We had to stay strong mentally and physically. Today was an awesome day and we would all love to do it again
