Day 1: Nov 20
I was assigned to ‘Jade’ class which consists of around 8 students from 16-19 years old. I started off the morning helping with laminating work and cutting out some activities for the children. This continued until lunch but it was an opportunity for me to connect with the staff as well as exploring the library. After lunch, I joined the class for some interactive Art and Basketball lessons. In the Art lesson, we made marble art with Christmas themes and since there were only 3 students, I had the opportunity to actually help the students create the art while encouraging them on the side. In the Basketball lesson, the entire class came and we practiced dribbling and shooting the basket. Lastly, we took a jog around the area and I was dismissed at 2:30pm after the students left.
I was really nervous and anxious coming to the school as I have limited experience working with children. I didn’t know how they would be like and what it would be like working with them. Again, I do not have that much experience working with children and everything was so new to me and I was really afraid I would make a mistake or someone might get hurt. I chose this CAS Week because I wanted to step out of my comfort zone (and do something challenging too!) and judging from the first day, I think that there can definitely be room for improvement. One of the students also became my ‘sister’ and I can’t wait to get to know her (and other students) more!
