Day 1 - Nepal here we come!
By Brendan Mah 08/11/19
This is the first day of our CAS trip in Nepal! We arrived at the Hong Kong Airport after school and left for Nepal by plane shortly after. I am currently on the plane as I am writing this, while Brian Wong watches Stephen Chow next to me.
I am really looking forward to this trip for a multitude of reasons. This will be my first time traveling to Nepal, and I'll get to spend some time with my friends away from the stress that comes with academics. I will also get the opportunity to teach younger students, which is exciting for me as it is one of my interests and it will also be my first time teaching outside of Hong Kong. Of course, I hope to learn more about Nepali culture, their language and cuisine.
However, it will also be challenging to ensure that I respect their culture at all times, as it is likely very different from my own. As a group, we will also engage in a construction service project in the Mechchhe village. This will be the first time I will be part of a construction project. We will also learn about Hinduism and visit the Seven Women's Centre, which will hopefully broaden my understanding of the contextual situation in Nepal, and appreciate their culture more. I will try to respect their traditions and mannerisms at all times. Another concern that I believe most of us have is also probably the toilets at our homestay! Unfortunately, we'll just have to see
All in all, I am really excited for this trip to Nepal! I am looking forward to making new friends both within and outside of our CAS group, broadening my knowledge of the world, and hopefully creating a meaningful impact on the local residents in the process.
